Hey there! Welcome to my Hist 299 project site! Below is a brief summary of the journey I took to get to this topic. In the menu is a timeline of the historians involved in the historiography of the Risorgimento, as well as a Storymap of the Risorgimento period itself and a gallery of images related to both. I recommend the Storymap first, to get the broad strokes picture of what the historians in the timeline are studying, and how their models interpret that history.
“We have made Italy. Now we must make Italians,” Marquis d’Azeglio.
This website is the culmination of a semester long project, learning how to write and create a proper historical project. For me, it was also another leg of my journey through European History, hitting different countries and time periods on the way. Italy was one that had come up several times in projects and research I had done, as a sidebar or in relation. But now, Italy gets to take the spotlight, with one of the most interesting periods in history (atleast, to me). Initially I was going to focus on King Victor Emmanuel II, who ruled Sardinia-Piedmont during the period, but that changed for multiple reasons. Firstly, I found a topic I liked the idea of better, and secondly, there wasn’t alot more I had to say about him.
